A Tribute to Darwin, 8/6/04 - 2/20/16

Just a week ago we lost a member of the VCS family as well as a member of Peter and Julie’s family. Darwin passed last Saturday. Darwin came to VCS as a pup to have his hearing tested (the breeder had named him ‘7’, he was from a large litter) and Peter adopted him that day. He was a great ambassador for the hospital as well as for the Dogo Argentino breed. He grew up with Julie and Peter’s children and he was their guardian watching them as they played, always being sure they were safe. His only vice was that he enjoyed stealing the sticks their son loved to collect in the backyard!

Darwin was a universal blood donor and saved many lives with his donations. He attended dog shows, pet events and business expositions too. Darwin always attracted a crowd of adults and children, each wanting to pet his rather impressive head and give him a cookie. He was featured on the pet calendar that was published a few years ago with our clinic cat, Dexter. He was also an actor in an independent film that won a state film festival !

It was difficult to say ‘good bye’ and we have all been missing him a great deal. One thing we all know for sure, we are so grateful to have known Darwin, he was a kind and gentle soul.
